‐ Maintain the security and functionality of the LAN environment in Japan so that all staff can work effectively. This includes the main office location and any other remote locations for sales reps. Server platforms to be supported include Windows NT. Clients include PCs and some Macintosh.
‐ Maintain the functionality of various other “technical” systems in Japan, including (as examples) the door security system and the telephone system
‐ Ensure that all necessary administrative paperwork associated with the IT function is completed; including documentation of all systems, purchase requests for acquisitions, registry of all hardware.
‐ Administer IT policies and implement infrastructure initiatives of the Global and Regional organization, and represent the IT requirements of the local business community within those Global and Regional organizations.
‐ Support the primary IT support staff in the other offices as required with trouble-shooting advice, and supply of software (e.g. Microsoft). This may include some remote support calls to their systems.
‐ Supervise and ensure the development of any members of the IT Department that may be recruited
The IT function in Asia has traditionally been carried out by a single person, using outside contractors for additional support where required. Reliance has also been placed on staff from the Electronic Publishing departments for additional support whenever that single person has been absent from the office.
The systems supported by the IT function are critical to the operations of the group. As such, any failure in these systems must be treated with appropriate urgency and seriousness when they occur. Should a failure prove difficult to resolve, the IT function is expected to work late, to restore the system before the next working day.
The Systems Engineer reports to the Regional IT Operations Manager based in Sydney, with a dotted reporting line to the Electronic Publishing Director based in Japan.
