A Global Insurance firm is seeking an experienced Technical/Development Team Manager to lead a subject matter expert team, drive transformation and upgrade projects, and act as a future successor for senior leadership roles.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage subject matter expert team, providing direction, coaching, and motivation while ensuring collaboration with engineering team, vendors and internal stakeholders.
- Oversee and execute transformation projects, immediate focus will be technology upgrades, bringing engineering mindset to solve the problem and in a long-term including application rationalization (slimming down from ~50 apps to 10–20 through consolidation and decommissioning).
- Deliver cloud migration initiatives, moving applications to AWS Cloud with a focus on scalable, cost-effective architectures.
- Partner with user-facing and business teams to ensure seamless delivery of customer-facing systems.
- Act as a bridge between management and technical teams, ensuring clear communication, problem-solving, and effective project execution.
- Prepare to act as a successor to the current leadership role, with the ability to step up into a senior manager role in the future.
- Maintain oversight of development standards, code quality, and best practices while ensuring security, compliance, and performance optimization.
Required Technical Skills:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
- 10+ years of IT/development experience, with at least 3–5 years in a leadership or team management capacity.
- Proven track record delivering transformation/upgrade projects, ideally in insurance, financial services, or large-scale enterprise systems.
- Strong knowledge of AWS Cloud services, serverless architecture, and database migration/tuning (Oracle, PostgreSQL).
- Background in Java, Spring Boot, Angular enterprise systems (hands-on not mandatory but strong technical understanding required).
- Experience working on application rationalization projects (merging/decommissioning apps).
- Strong people management skills with proven success leading Japanese engineering teams.
