Job Specification: IT Project Manager (Technical)

The Opportunity

  • Role: Technical IT Project Manager

  • Location: Remote First (Occasional travel to London and Berkshire areas)

  • Rate: £550 – £600 per day (Inside IR35)

  • Engagement: Initial Contract with a strong view toward permanent conversion

  • Start Date: Early March 2026

Organizational Overview

The hiring organization is a partner-owned UK Facilities Management business characterized by an "employee-partnership" model. While the company is highly successful and growing rapidly through acquisitions, the internal IT delivery structure is currently immature.

We are seeking a Technical IT Project Manager to introduce structured capability and governance where it does not currently exist. You will work alongside the Head of Technology to stabilize the estate, lead cyber-security initiatives, and manage the technical integration of newly acquired businesses.

Primary Objectives

  1. Introduce Governance: Establish project delivery controls and documentation standards from the ground up.

  2. Stabilize & Secure: Support the execution of estate stabilization and critical cyber-security improvement initiatives.

  3. M&A Execution: Provide structured planning and delivery support for the technical integration of ongoing business acquisitions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Framework Creation: Define and implement project governance, structure, and process from first principles.

  • Technical Leadership: Engage directly with technical teams on workstreams involving asset discovery, tagging, and audit.

  • Acquisition Support: Coordinate the planning and execution of M&A activity to ensure seamless technology transitions.

  • Change Management: Drive the adoption of stronger technology and security practices across a diverse, non-technical workforce.

  • Stakeholder Management: Operate fluidly across internal teams and third-party delivery partners to ensure alignment.

Capability Requirements

The "Must-Haves"

  • Technical Pedigree: You must have started your career in a technical role (e.g., Engineer, Systems Admin, or Developer). Credible technical engagement with engineering teams is a non-negotiable requirement.

  • Certifications: Prince2 Practitioner.

  • Greenfield Experience: Demonstrable experience building delivery processes and governance from scratch.

  • Domain Expertise: Experience operating within infrastructure, cyber, or enterprise IT environments.

Personal Specification

  • Adaptability: Resilient and fluid when responding to shifting priorities and evolving responsibilities.

  • Empathetic Leadership: A "hearts and minds" approach to change. In this partnership culture, non-compliance from frontline staff is addressed through education and empathy rather than rigid enforcement.

  • Autonomy: Able to operate effectively without high levels of direction or mentoring.

Engagement Logistics & Culture

  • Culture: A relationship-driven, trust-based environment. This is not a "command and control" IT shop; it requires a warm, collaborative style.

  • Model: Remote-first, requiring a candidate who is self-motivated and capable of building relationships virtually.

  • Intent: The business is looking for a long-term partner. Candidates open to future permanent conversion are strongly preferred.
