A Global and one of the world’s largest Insurance Service provide is looking for a strong bilingual leader for the Assistant VP, Claims Software Development Engineering Lead, within its Japan Information Technology Department.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the end-to-end software lifecycle — architecture, design, development, testing, release, and production operations — for Claims applications and related technology domains
- Oversee the planning, execution, and prioritization of product backlogs in tight alignment with business objectives, customer experience goals, and transformation priorities
- Partner with business leaders to translate strategic goals into actionable technology programs supporting digital transformation, operational excellence, and risk reduction
- Ensure Claims platforms remain secure, resilient, compliant, and stable, with strong focus on incident reduction, SLAs, and performance metrics
- Drive adoption of Agile, DevOps, CI/CD, test-driven development, and modern engineering best practices
- Define and implement a multi-year modern technology roadmap, including cloud migration, cloud-native architecture patterns, API modernization, and AI/ML adoption
- Lead solution-level architecture decisions, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards, cybersecurity policies, and long-term technology sustainability
- Introduce emerging technologies (AI, data analytics, automation) that enhance claims processing efficiency and customer outcomes
- Build scalable, flexible, and reusable technology patterns for future claims initiatives
- Manage executive-level relationships with Claims business leaders, ensuring transparency, collaboration, and alignment across all technology programs
- Oversee third-party technology suppliers, SaaS partners, and engineering vendors, ensuring high performance, cost efficiency, and contract compliance
- Collaborate closely with Cybersecurity, Infrastructure, Data Analytics, Risk, Compliance, and Internal Audit to deliver secure, compliant, and well-controlled technology services
- Manage full-stack engineering teams across countries; drive upskilling, reskilling, hiring, and overall engineering culture transformation
- Conduct peer reviews of architecture, code, and technical designs to ensure quality, security, and alignment with best practices
- Lead production incident escalations, root-cause analysis, and long-term remediation plans
- Build and maintain a high-performing engineering organization with strong technical depth and delivery excellence
- Ensure disaster recovery, cybersecurity, privacy, and technology currency are maintained across all Claims platforms
- Oversee application/platform stability, monitoring, and operational readiness for mission-critical Claims systems
- Track project performance, financials, KPIs, and delivery outcomes to meet annual business and technology objectives
Required Skills:
- 10–15+ years leading software engineering teams in large-scale digital transformation within financial services or technology sectors
- Cloud-native architectures
- API-based systems
- Modern web/mobile technologies (Java, React)
- AI, Machine Learning, Big Data platforms
- Proven experience building mission-critical, highly resilient, secure, and high-performance systems in complex, regulated environments
- Hands-on expertise across the full SDLC: CI/CD, test-driven development, domain-driven design, Agile, DevOps
- Strong understanding of enterprise engineering best practices, architecture patterns, and modernization frameworks
- Prior experience managing 3rd-party vendors, SaaS providers, and multi-country engineering teams
- Excellent communication skills; able to simplify technical concepts for non-technical business leaders

Working Hours: 9:00 - 18:00 (Mon-Fri)
Working Style: 3 days’ work in office, and 2 days’ work from home
