Description
A leading private equity firm in Japan, is launching a new venture through its venture studio initiative and is seeking a Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to play a foundational role in building this business from the ground up. This new company will focus on developing a globally scalable education-focused gaming application, aimed at improving language skills for users around the world. This position offers a rare opportunity to co-create a startup alongside a confirmed CEO, supported by the capital, network, and expertise of an established investment firm. As the founding CTO, you will take full ownership of the technology strategy and execution—from ideation to prototype development, and eventually scaling the product and building a high-performing engineering team.
The role is highly hands-on at the initial stage, requiring you to directly engage in coding, architecture design, and product development, while also acting as a key partner in shaping business strategy and communicating with investors. You will be expected to bridge the gap between technology and business, ensuring the product is both technically robust and commercially successful in global markets.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the end-to-end development of a global education game application (focused on language learning and skill enhancement)
- Build the product from scratch, including hands-on coding, architecture design, and system implementation
- Develop initial prototypes / MVP independently before scaling the engineering team
- Collaborate closely with the CEO to define product vision, roadmap, and go-to-market strategy
- Communicate effectively with investors and stakeholders, presenting technical concepts and progress
- Establish and scale the future engineering organization, including hiring and team building
- Drive technical decisions across infrastructure, development frameworks, and AI integration where applicable
Required Skills:
- Strong hands-on engineering capability with experience building products from scratch in a startup or new business environment
- Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to operate in a zero-to-one setting and communicate effectively with both business leaders and investors
- Experience in mobile / scalable application development with a global perspective (AI and gaming experience are a plus)
