A Global Financial firm is looking for a Senior cybersecurity and technology leader to serve as the Japan Head of Security Engagement, reporting directly to the Group CISO.
The role acts as the key bridge between the global CISO organization and Japan businesses, technology teams and senior management. The person will ensure Japan’s business priorities, cyber risks and regulatory requirements are understood globally, while also translating the Group CISO’s strategy, security requirements and risk position into clear actions for Japan stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
- Build trusted relationships with Wealth Management, Nomura Asset Management, Nomura Trust & Banking and other Japan entities
- Understand business strategy, technology environment, cyber-risk profile and regulatory requirements
- Act as the primary coordination point between Japan stakeholders and global CISO functions
- Identify ownership gaps, conflicting expectations and potential delivery issues
- Ensure Japan requirements are incorporated into global planning and decision-making
- Translate complex cybersecurity, risk, regulatory and technical matters into clear business language for Japanese executives
- Translate Japan business requirements into actionable direction for global CISO teams
- Communicate CISO strategy, risks, controls, initiatives and services to Japan stakeholders
- Ensure executive discussions focus on business impact, resilience, regulatory obligations and outcomes
- Represent the Group CISO in selected Japan management and governance forums
- Act as the Group CISO's Japan-based delegate for stakeholder engagement and issue coordination
- Prepare the Group CISO for meetings with Japanese executives
- Track key decisions, commitments, dependencies and escalations
- Coordinate cross-functional cybersecurity initiatives impacting Japan
- Translate executive decisions into structured plans with owners, milestones and deadlines
- Track progress across global CISO teams and Japan stakeholders
- Support Japan businesses with global security policies, Essential Cyber Controls and risk-assessment requirements
- Connect Japanese regulatory requirements with the global CISO strategy
- Work with GRC, Legal, Compliance, Risk, Internal Audit and regulatory teams
Required Skills:
- 15+ years of leadership experience in large, complex/global organizations
- 10+ years of information security experience
- Strong background in: Cybersecurity, Technology Risk, Cyber GRC, Cybersecurity Transformatio
- Strong cyber program/project management experience
- Experience coordinating complex initiatives across multiple business units and countries
- Ability to present cyber risk, regulatory requirements and technical matters to senior/non-technical executives
- Experience in a global financial institution or another highly regulated organization
- Strong understanding of: Cybersecurity governance, Risk management, Security controls, Regulatory requirement
- Sufficient technical knowledge to engage credibly with security architects, engineers, operations teams and cybersecurity specialist
- Security practices, technologies and protocols
- Risk frameworks and regional security best practices
- Global/regional cybersecurity trends
- Certifications such as CISSP or CISM required, or equivalent security certification
