Description
A Global IT Service firm is seeking a Database Engineer to join the Database Platform team. This role is responsible for designing, building, automating, and operating large-scale database infrastructure that supports a wide range of services.
As part of a highly skilled team of database specialists and software engineers, you will contribute to the development of a Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS) platform across hybrid and multi-cloud environments.
Responsibilities:
- Design and establish a robust Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS) platform, leveraging a hybrid/multi-cloud architecture to integrate on-premises databases with public cloud solutions.
- Communicate closely with engineering and application teams to design, implement, and maintain a scalable, reliable, and secure database platform across hybrid environments, while automating operational tasks to drive efficiency.
- Manage, monitor, and optimize database performance, recognizing opportunities to improve SQL operations and implementations, and ensuring high availability and low latency through advanced tuning techniques.
- Manage operations of production and staging environment databases.
- Design and develop self-service tools and automation solutions to drive operational efficiency and team productivity.
- Collaborate with product teams to execute and improve the database systems.
- Communicate with engineering and DBA teams to design, implement, and monitor disaster recovery plans.
- Conduct technical troubleshooting and bug fixing.
- Resolve complex technical issues under high-pressure environments by implementing massively scalable solutions while effectively managing expectations across multiple stakeholder groups.
- Engage in technology discussions with internal stakeholders to drive alignment and ensure the timely, high-quality delivery of complex projects.
- Enforce rigorous database security protocols and compliance standards to protect sensitive data
Required skills:
- 5+ years of work experience in the IT industry.
- Extensive experience in MySQL or MariaDB administration, including replication strategies, backup/recovery, performance tuning, troubleshooting, and disaster recovery planning.
- Experience automating database provisioning and configuration management using tools such as Terraform, Chef, or Ansible.
- Strong knowledge of Linux/Unix, with the ability to deliver code and automation of the highest quality and standards.
- Ability to automate operational tasks using Python, Go, or Bash scripting.
- Experience with test automation and CI/tooling such as Jenkins and Git.
