Description
A Global Management Consulting firm is seeking a SAP ABAP Data Extraction Developer to support a large-scale ERP transformation and data migration project within the aviation industry.
This role focuses on designing and building data extraction pipelines from SAP ERP systems into a target data warehouse, handling both standard and complex SAP table structures. The successful candidate will work closely with data engineering teams, as well as SAP BASIS and functional stakeholders, to ensure efficient and accurate data extraction.
Responsibilities:
- Design and build data extraction pipelines from SAP ERP systems into target data platforms
- Extract data from SAP transparent, cluster, and pool tables
- Develop custom RFC function modules in ABAP for complex data extraction scenarios
- Work with standard BAPIs and RFC modules, identifying the best extraction approach per use case
- Build and maintain ETL jobs using DataStage or equivalent tools
- Collaborate with SAP BASIS teams to configure and troubleshoot RFC connections and authorization objects
- Handle SAP-specific data type conversions (DATS, TIMS, NUMC)
- Optimize extraction performance (packet sizing, partitioning, delta loads)
- Document extraction logic, SAP object dependencies, and technical design
- Work closely with data engineering teams to ensure seamless integration into downstream pipelines
Required Skills:
- Strong ABAP development experience: Custom RFC function modules, Data Dictionary (SE11), Function Builder (SE37)
- Experience with SAP RFC/BAPI, including identifying and using standard function modules
- Experience with ETL/data extraction tools (DataStage, Informatica, SSIS, Talend, or similar)
- Solid SQL skills
- Strong understanding of SAP table structures (transparent, cluster, pool tables)
- Basic understanding of SAP BASIS concepts (RFC destinations, authorization objects such as S_RFC, S_TABU_DIS)
- Experience in SAP data migration or ERP transformation projects
- Ability to work hands-on in a technical delivery environment
