Description
A Global IT Service firm is looking for a Data Engineer.
The group you will be joining is the Data Solution Group, which is responsible for the query logic and BI dashboards implemented on the Databricks workspaces used as the analytical backend. These dashboards are ultimately consumed by users through Analytics UI, our in-house BI frontend used by internal services and external client companies. For this position, we are looking for a BI Platform Engineer whose primary responsibilities are Databricks workspace administration and Databricks dashboard development (either as a direct contributor or as a super admin overseeing the work). In addition, this role includes building the ETL pipelines on Databricks that produce the datamart tables consumed by dashboards, along with contribution to the broader analytics ETL work shared across the group.
Responsibilities:
- Manage Databricks workspaces from a BI standpoint: user / group / permission management, workspace-level configuration, SQL Warehouse setup, and cost / performance trade-offs
- Support and advise other internal teams who consume dashboards through our workspaces, acting as a super admin counterpart on the BI side
- Support the design, build, test, and maintenance of dashboards on Databricks (SQL / Lakeview dashboards, Preset Dashboards, etc.) serving both internal services and external client companies — or manage those activities comprehensively as a super admin
- Own or oversee dashboard performance: SQL tuning, SQL Warehouse sizing, caching strategy, and dashboard-level refresh design
- Troubleshoot dashboard issues end-to-end — from data correctness and query behavior down to Databricks workspace configuration and access permissions
- Manage the release flow of dashboards across environments
- Define and evolve the reference architecture for new dashboards (Overview Dashboard, Funnel Analysis, Preset Dashboards, ad-hoc reports, etc.)
- Perform dashboard QA: filter behavior, service-group / user access control, and data correctness on PROD
- Document dashboard specifications, release procedures, and operational runbooks so the team can scale without single points of failure
- Design, develop, and maintain ETL pipelines on Databricks that produce the datamart tables consumed by BI dashboards (tightly coupled with dashboard development)
- Contribute to broader analytics ETL work — access log processing and downstream data transformations on cloud platforms (e.g. GCP, Databricks) — shared across the group as needed
- Support the provision of analytics data to group-wide services such as search, recommendation, and advertising systems
- Help troubleshoot issues in the data pipelines and analytics systems owned by the group
- Coordinate with Customer Success and SRE on dashboard release scope, QA ownership, and environment strategy
- Align with upstream pipeline / ETL owners (including the Event Mart / Airflow side of the Data Solution Group) on datamart contracts consumed by dashboards
Required Skills:
- 7+ years of work experience in BI / dashboard engineering, analytics platform development, or equivalent, with a clear track record of operating dashboards in production for real business users
- Hands-on experience designing, building, testing, operating, and troubleshooting BI dashboards on Databricks or equivalent tools (SQL / Lakeview dashboards on Databricks, or comparable BI dashboards on modern data platforms) — including SQL Warehouse (or equivalent) configuration, permission / workspace design, and cost / performance tuning
- Strong SQL skills including analytical / window functions and CTEs, with the ability to optimize queries specifically for dashboard workloads
- Demonstrated ability to work as a self-directed Middle-to-Senior contributor: taking ambiguous requirements, driving them to design, implementation, release, and operation without needing task-level supervision
- Basic web / app analytics domain knowledge (sessions, conversion, attribution) sufficient to challenge and validate dashboard requirements
- Basic computer-science fundamentals (shell scripting, HTML, JavaScript, SQL)
- Hands-on experience using generative AI and AI agents in daily work (e.g. drafting design docs with LLMs, coding with AI coding agents, or improving development / operations efficiency using AI agents with MCP or similar tooling)
- Ability to communicate and coordinate in English with data engineers, product managers, and other technical stakeholders
Why should you apply:
- This is a long-term opportunity with a chance to become a permanent employee
- You will be working with international team members
- Free breakfast, lunch and dinner at the cafeteria
